Hot pants, summer in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city **
It was sweltering hot in China and we saw some great summer fashion.
Chinese women know how to wear their hot pants; they looked stylish and beautiful.
They were out on the streets, everywhere, enjoying summer.
This woman (above) is having her ears cleaned, a commonly used service, while her boyfriend takes her photo.
And they’ve got the attitude to carry off the clothes. I enjoyed photographing them as we walked the streets.

Summer fashions reminded me of the hit song “Summer in the City” 1966.
**(loosely based on the lyrics to “Summer in the City” by The Lovin Spoonful)
Were you able to check out any of the Beijing indie music scene? From what I understand one exists, at least in Shanghai – I would guess Beijing too.

Yup, we saw signs of music hipsters. Neighborhood by our hutong hotel had lots of guitar & ukulele shops. Nighttime wandering revealed nightclub crooners, aspiring singer songwriters. We didn’t stay out late enough to interact with the real edge.
An observation: very few tattooed people in China. In the western world, indie music overlaps with tattoo enthusiasts. Or it did in the old days, before everyone and their grandmother got tattooed.
