Holiday Greetings 2006

MKL Day Card

My first effort at this website business (is this a blog? what’s ‘blog’ in French?). I made a holiday card as a PDF; click here to download at full size.

As y”all may have already inferred, I made this card with a foreign audience in mind. I have lots of foreign collaborators and I thot it would be nice to make them aware of the MLK holiday.

  2. Excellent card and excellent thoughts, Brian.
We and the Tom’s recently visited the MLK museum in Atlanta. Very powerful, and a strong reminder of what was going on in the world while I was finishing up in the Navy and beginning my architectural career in Roanoke.

  3. In response to E’s comment: I’m not sure that there’s an official French word for it but given that “blog” is a shortened version of “web log,” the French could do worse than “loch net.” “Loch” is French for log (as in “captain’s log”) and the French use “net” much more often than “web” when referring to the internet. [In the end though, I have seen people refer to their blogs as “le blog.”]

It might interest some to know that the French have their own words for computer (“ordinateur”), email (“courriel”), and website (“site-web”). As a wise man once said: “”Chapeau’ means hat. ‘Oeuf’ is egg. It’s like those French have a word for everything!”
