We are visiting our friend A. and his wife H. in western Xinjiang Province this week.

It’s beautiful here in the high desert. We will be visiting their family farm, picking grapes, dates and cotton.
The village is where raisins are made by drying in the desert.
This evening in Urumqi we ate lamb kebabs, fresh yogurt, rice pilau, hand-pulled noodles, fresh tomatoes and peppers.
Later at the street market, a vendor cut us a wedge of sweet sweet fresh chartreuse melon using a machete-like knife. The juice dripped down our hands onto the street as we savored it.
