STANSTED MOUNTFITCHET
Our come-down jet lag cure wasn”t as dramatic as Eric and Alison’s, but pleasurable and effective, nonetheless.

Flight schedules were such that we had a four-hour window to get from our Virgin Atlantic flight at Heathrow to an easyJet flight from Stansted airport to Barcelona. Doable, but what if,

So we decided to spend a day in England to wind down, giving us one day and four hours to make that connection.

We took the bus to the Stansted airport and got a taxi from there to the Chimneys Bed and Breakfast in Stansted Mountfitchet, a quintessential English town nearby. There was nothing to do but walk, eat, sleep and shower, and that’s just what we did. Continue reading “m&c Europe 07 1”

My Life in a Box

In March 2005, the idea was conceived that each professional staff member (there are 12) put together a 3 dimensional shadow box to represent important happenings in his/her life. About a month later at IKEA were small shadow boxes perfect for our task.

The boxes were purchased and handed out as “here’s a summer project,go for it”. When the staff came back together in September, nary a box had been attempted much less completed. The idea languished until March of this year when the staff began to plan for our annual Spring Break retreat. We decided to spend a day working along side each other putting the boxes together.

Cookin’ in California

Our week entertaining niece Masha was chugging along even with the worst heat wave in recent memory hugging the Bay Area. Monday was Chinatown day with all the usual shops and of course, dim sum.

Tuesday we had invited friends for dinner. Marc made the menu and then as usual said “dessert is your part”. After some thought, I decided to do fruit and chocolate,have it done ahead and something fairly simple. Masha has always loved to make strawberries dipped in chocolate so why not branch out. We rolled bananas in dark chocolate & nuts then froze them; dipped Turkish apricots in the same chocolate; then made Masha made white chocolate patties with dried apricots, cranberries and toasted almonds.
